The infinite and unknowable mysteries of life will likely not reveal themselves to you in this film. Bad Blood is not about possibility and philosophy; it is about men attacking one another with pointy metal tools. When they succeed, they continue to attack one another with pointy metal tools. When they fail, they continue to attack one another with pointy metal tools.
Sometimes women get involved.
Sometimes the tools aren’t as pointy.
Sometimes living dioramas get involved.
Do you like films where human dioramas and traditional ethnic bands come to life and attack with toolsthat are pointy and -sometimes- music-y? If so, this is a film for you. Probably not bad for the genre, too.
Lam (Kieu Minh Tran) used to be a gangster. Hence, we won’t be surprised when he goes all Liam Neeson on us. His step-daughter Hien (Mai Cát Vi) is a bit of a mess. And when she goes missing, Lam has to track her down, starting with Hien’s evil job interview. I think the bad guy plan is to sell Hien into sex slavery of some kind, so -naturally- people are gonna start getting hurt when Lam goes poking around.
Not only does Lam get the warning: “As long as you continue to kill, everyone around you will die” – a warning echoed from his henchman days- the bad guy attacks start getting more creative.
Oh, and let me interject here that only in Asia do badasses ride Vespas.
Tracking Hien to an art exhibition, Lam is first attacked by mannequins, then a display of farmers, then a co-ed folk band. Lam is awesome at one-on-one, but not great against three or more.
Well, you get the idea: there’s a stepdaughter to rescue, and Lam is going to do so in bloody fashion. Get ready for cool moves and pointy grooves.
